The Healthy Behavior Optimization for Michigan (HBOM) program held its first summer collaborative meeting on June 21, 2022. HBOM invited representatives from our 9+ partnering Michigan CQIs in a virtual conversation on tobacco cessation value-based reimbursement strategies and implementation across the State of Michigan. We were joined by invited guest Alisha Lussiez, MD, from the department of surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Lussiez is a key player in a tobacco cessation screening and referral service that has been implemented as part of the pre-operative consultation process at Michigan Medicine.
The HBOM Design team showed off an expanded and redesigned online resource library, with a growing compendium of tobacco cessation support services available to providers and patients. The team also highlighted the contributions of HBOM partnering members who have co-created tobacco cessation posters that are all available to download and order.
This past year, we took HBOM “on the road,” presenting at the annual gatherings of our partners at the Michigan Oncology Quality Collaborative (MOQC), the Michigan Surgical Quality Collaborative (MSQC), and more. We had the opportunity to connect with clinicians and quality initiative leaders and gain an understanding of how tobacco cessation fit into their mission and their scope of practice. A few of our new friends helped us design a series of member co-created tobacco cessation posters, including career nurse and data analyst, Sandi Osterland (MSQC and MARCQI); communications specialist for the Opioid Prescribing Engagement Network (OPEN), Madeline Miller; and Angela Medrano, RN of the Michigan Emergency Department Improvement Collaborative (MEDIC). Here’s a note from some of our creative partners!
